Maybe the simplest and most profound Habit for any disciple of Jesus is to read and obey the Bible.

  • Read a portion of the bible and ask the simple question above. Write down your answer either in the margin of the paper bible or somewhere digitally.

  • Answer this question after reading a portion of the bible. Try to be honest and specific with your answers.

  • Write down an “I will” statement. After reading the bible ask yourself the question and write down an answer using an “I will” statement. Ex: If this Bible passage is true, I will ________________.

  • The bible is a personal and communal book. Christians believe the bible is living and active and people are meant to live in relationships. So combine those two ideas and you get an active faith. Consider who you might share your reading with during the day or week.

The following are good questions to ask when reading any Bible passage. This method is what we call, Discovery Bible Study. Everyone is on a journey and in a relationship with God. This method of studying the Bible places an emphasis on people hearing from God rather than being taught about God.
