“I just want to do God's will….”
“Now that's a strange statement to make, because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land; confusion all around. That's a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. And I see God working in this period of the twentieth century in a way that men, in some strange way, are responding.” -delivered 3 April 1968, Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters), Memphis, Tennessee by Martin Luther King, Jr. in his last speech, I’ve Been To The Mountaintop.
I must tell you there is too much to say here in a brief entry. Perhaps we can talk over coffee, ice cream, a glass of wine, or even a good beer if you’d like to visit together in Northern Colorado? I’d like to do that together, but for today this entry must suffice.
There is word of recession coming, interest rates have risen, gasoline prices are at all time highs, war is in Ukraine, and confusion is at home. I believe people are fatigued, concerned, worried, and embattled….I believe that because I too live it!
So I share today to say with MLK Jr…I just want to do God’s will. Just this week alone I invested over $3000 in my cars to keep them running…those cars allow me to do God’s will. The money was invested into the relationships at the dealership. God’s will is for me to not worry and to trust him. I just want to do God’s will…
The recession is coming and what will happen to my income. We have lost thousands of dollars in our stocks just when we have kids in college. Praise God we have stocks and long term investments! Praise God he leads us in wisdom and with prudence! We will trust Him because I just want to do God’s will…
I cannot imagine the pain of the war in Ukraine. We have attempted to help a few families there. To what end? We have no clue. The Lord had led us to consider the needs of the country at war, and so we pray and help. I just want to do God’s will….
With all that is happening in our world I am concerned for my neighbors and our communities. We have people hurting, potential for lost jobs, while prices for goods are increasing. What will happen to us? I want to be ready to take action, and I pray because I just want to do God’s will…
So 54 years ago (longer than I have been alive) a man of God stood up and out for the hurting and sick in our nation. He had his normal human desires with his personal struggles and his personal goals. He stood up and out that evening because his intention was clear. No matter the cost, the pains, the fears associated with standing up and out…his will was determined and focused. He just wanted to do God’s will…
The very next morning he would be shot dead.
God’s will is always best.
God’s will is sometimes mysterious.
God’s will is eternal.
God’s will is simple and profound.
God’s will is costly.
God’s will is enchanting.
God’s will is to be accomplished and cannot be thwarted.
I just want to do God’s will…
